A thought prompted by reading through @Foxhound5366's EDC Thread:

How about a thread where we post upcoming firearm courses, skills-builders and shoots. I hope it improves on the perception of legal firearm ownership and also encourages firearm owners to keep learning by shooting more.

I'll start by linking to the training centre that converted me into a skilled, legal, firearm owner: International Training Academy
The have 2 shooting ranges with several firearms for hire, besides their excellent training and skills-builder courses.

I often go there in the mornings to put some holes in paper before starting work; it's a nice change from going to gym or a run.

Sho awesome man just ran through the whole website, cant find any pricing though... any idea what the tactical course would cost more.or less

I used to go to these guys (only stopped as I have a cheaper range closer to home)...
Was the first range I went to on my own...

Not sure if they still do it but you could also buy cheap ammo and what I liked was you got targets with a decent target stand...not something you first have to fix yourself with some tape...

+1 for ITA in the OP. My trainer was excellent and the day we did our competency at the range was brilliant. So I went to a trainer who is on the list but the range is owned by a local gun shop who give him the use of it. IIRC the Law and Handgun competency books were about R1500. The range fee and ammo was separate and I think was about R300 total.

I would recommend though that you start your journey by contacting legallyarmed.co.za in the first instance who will recommend a trainer and then help out with the paper work for the application to SAPS. I think their fee was about R500 and they made that application painless.

Nice job :) I definitely think there's room for a lot more threads like this. I actually asked one of the mods for a dedicated firearm subforum to contain it all ... who then passed the buck to sending the idea to RPM ... who then didn't respond. *shrugs* Many a good idea dies, but at least it lives in this thread of yours.

I have done multiple courses and can somewhat recommend Dean Nieuwoudt, as he's pretty much the only guy that does serious training in KZN that I can see.

His company - Fundikhono

I will be missioning up to Jozi soon to see if I can get more in-depth classes.
