I have an xbox360 arcade that was flashed years back.

Since secondhand games are cheap I'd like to go legit and update the thing to latest dash, purchase legit games only.

Anything that can go wrong , the dash currently on it is pretty dated I think?

as a rule if you update with the updater you will receive the latest update and not be able to run iso's etc anymore. I recommend you use a dummy account after full resetting to do this incase they decide to black list you and your games, but there's no way they can brick your system over the air. I have heard of blacklisted Xboxes but this is probably already the case depending and only for pervasive piraters.

It depends when it was last updated.

One of the 360 updates flashes a new DVD rom firmware to the drive, and will overwrite any custom firmware that is on there. I don't know which one, just Google and see but it is probably 2 years or so ago.

That is the only thing to worry about.
