Why have none of the ISPs updated their web sites?

If I was a new ADSL user and I signed up for my nice new shiny 30 GB account only to be told in 2 weeks that the price has changed to around R2200, I think I might be a little pissed.

I would also REALLY like to here from Axxess. Anyone out there! You clients would like an update on how they are about the be buggered!

Am I alone on this or does this whole practice of misleading clients seem a bit disturbing?

I agree.

Not once has anyone contacted me (a subscriber to WA) via email to inform me of prospective price changes. Telkom havent announced it, the ISP's havent really aside from one or two posts here.

What would happen if I weren't a member of this forum? I would have no idea what was happening. I would happily surfing along next month, then wammo, no interweb once I reach my cap. Get told that the account I was using is no longer valid due to Telkoms stupidity.

My bitch is that the ISP's are looking to be just as bad as Telkom by not saying anything. Not one ISP site (bar Openweb and Nukecap) has a notice about whats happening come Nov 1st. AFAIK. What happens when come the end of next month all of a sudden most subscribers who have no idea whats going on, reach their cap and can't send email or do anything with their lines?

The ISP's need to make an announcement saying exactly what they plan on doing re accounts (like WA has done here) but on their own pages aswell.

I'm sure there are tons of SMME's out there who have NO IDEA about the bombshell about to drop!

if u weren't a member of this forum, you wouldn't have the R199 special. And all the guys that have posted with the new prices here, say that the users will be converted to the smallest package (which is usally less than the R199).

And you then have the opportunity to upgrade.

So even thought the information is lacking, you would still not be overbilled, just under-bandwithed.

What I don't understand is what all the secrecy is about.

Surely if Telkom have decided to go with their per gig billing, the ISP's should, by now, know, or at least have an idea of, what packages they'll offer come 1st Nov.

I'm with Imaginet and so far I haven't hear a peep about new pricing. Nothing new on their website either.

I did send them a mail yesterday and they said they were releasing prices today. Nothing so far.

Sorry but you must be blind ;-)

They make it clear when you signup, that it will last until November, its also updated in their AUP.

I don't think that we are specifically talking about the R199 deal here. Even though that would present the biggest difference in price.

I can't understand how these kind of business practices can exist.

I run a web development company, and as such host a lot of my clients sites. I would get crucified if come a certain date, I just stuck all my clients onto a lower hosting package, give them no notice and when they question me about it, all I can say is that my costs have increased.

This is essentially what has happened. The ISPs have had their costs increased. Now in normal business practices, the company would either eat the additional costs, or notify their clients with new pricing in a reasonable time frame so they can make a decision.

Also don't carry on advertising your products as if they are a permanent solution, when you know in 2 WEEKS the prices are going to change.

While I support the ISPs a LOT more than Telkom. I think they are all doing the Internet community a disservice.

Also as every one keeps saying the reason no ISP's have made it official is simple "IT IS NOT OFFICIAL" just 90% so and that 10% is stopping them posting changes to their detrement! Even if there was only a 1% chance I would still hold out for official confirmation before i forced my customers to make a decision.

Sorry Clipse, I did miss that on the Web Africa and SAOL site. However there a load of other ISPs that have not put up a notice like that. Axxess for example have nothing stating this, so far as I can see.

Also, with existing clients, from what I have heard there has been no correspondence whatsoever. I certainly have heard nothing from allyoucaneat.

I just find it crazy that companies are changing their pricing/offering without notifying their clients!

I'm sorry James but I just don't buy that.

If it looks as though you are going to have to change prices then you let your clients know!

At the very least you tell them there is a good possibility it will go ahead, but you are fighting it with everything you have.

You HAVE to give your clients the facts, or they get REALLY pissed when things just change on them.

It has always been my belief that you give your clients the worst case scenario and then over perform if you possibly can.

My ISP (WA) has done just that, let me know but stated it is not official and there is a possiblity things will stay the same. I have made 3 phone calls to Telkom today and it is clear the right hand does not have a F***ing clue as to what the left is doing simple. I will wait for November 1st as I signed for a certain price, if that changes I have every right to cancel right there and then, until then I am on the same package.

Killkenny, I agree. While they arent doing anything wrong technically, it does seem irresponsible to me.
