At 2:45PM today UUNet performed upgrades to their national link between themselves and Telkom, this should reduce the amount of packet loss that was being seen on the network (coupled with the BitTorrent changes which have already helped pings substantially) and improve national and international performance.

However, this is not the international upgrades that are still slated to be done in the near future.

Oh yay- another Teklom peering problem. Now - IS + UUNET could have fought teklom together. But - sigh - it was not to be. But - sigh - IS may not peer with UUNET. Why ? Ask governmint.

But thanks 4 the feedback. :)

Why do you even say IS may not peer with uunet? As far as I know the peering link between IS and uunet works pretty damn good.

IS peer with all the major service providers one way or another.
The reason why the IS thing has faded is because of two reasons :
1. 40% of IS is up for sale. I would be shot if I told this forum who is buying it :)
2. The other 60% is owned by Dimension Data, and DD are trying to broker a deal with Telkom about selling it some shares in DD.

Net result = total A*** **** for the consumers...

Tinuva - sry - not enough detail in my post. What I meant is that the UUNET <-> IS peering link is teklom supplied and teklom make money from it, which is unfair to me. But if my facts (I think) are wrong - please enlighten me.

Just another update regarding the network, yesterday's upgrades have resulted in only a minor improvement with regards to packet loss and performance, and as such another upgrade (the same as the upgrades that have been done in the past) has been slated for implementation tomorrow. Once we receive more information on this, we will relay it here.

Although I'm quite familiar with l33t speak, what exactly is *ggg*....in games I understand it to be 'good game' but it obviously doesn't mean that in this context.

*g* = grin

pings not only suck to sgs servers, but to any local server, the international pings also are higher because of this...I see another 2000ms local ping coming like there was in march...

Methinks that it's time we get some answers from UUNET self.
The company I work for is thinking of using UUNET, and i've show them this thread so that they can see what they're getitng themselves into.
I'm also trying to get the contact details of somebody within UUNET to explain.
Will keep ya'll posted.
