Hey there guys, so I would just like to know if I could somehow update my current driod (Motorola Backflip) from Android v1.5 to v2.1. Now currently it doesn't seem that it's allowed in South-Africa, however. If I took say AT&T's driod version and loaded that on my phone, would that work correctly?

If not, could I then somehow root my phone and use a custom rom running on droid v2.1?

I'm kind of new to all this droidy business :P

But the reason I ask is though, I'd really like to get Whatsapp, however there's no support for any droid versions below 2.1, So I'm just trying to find a way to get whatsapp working on the phone

Personally I would stay away from Official US roms as they(AT&T) tend to remove allot of functions from tethering to unknown source installations.

I would say XDA forums would be a better place for rooting help, unless someone here has one and can give advice?

Will I be able to update my phone to 2.1 though? If the only thing it really takes away from me is support from MTN, then I'll be fine with that, if however it by some unexplainable ninja happenings bricks my phone, it's another matter :P

That rom is 2.2, much better than 2.1, but as with any ROM you need to do your homework, read through the thread to see if there are any issues, if there is no critical issues then you can go ahead and flash your phone.

There are a lot more ROMs to choose from, but I would really consider a 2.2.

It also helps to have a copy of the original stock ROM, if you ever want to revert back, but trust me, once you tasted 2.2 you will not want to go back.
:D

Hi,
I have successfully upgraded to 2.3.1, by following the various tutorials out there. But I have one significant exception - wifi doesn't connect. Everything else is great.
I can post the various links, but j_r0dd's patches and versions (http://www.mediafire.com/?akaa6cib1q7on) all work well, and aren't password protected like some of the referring sites :(

Anyone had an issue with wifi / can some guidance? I have loaded the IT (radio) patches, still no joy. Revert to 1.5, everything is perfect. In a terminal session, iwconfig reports the interface is there and working, but it just doesn't connect to the AP. And yes, everything else does connect ;)

Thoughts?
