Upgrade Activation Fee

I'm upgrading a telkom number. The call center says that a new sim will be shipped with the upgrade device and new sims are always used when upgrading. An activation fee of R99 will be charged as well.


Is this true, upgrades always use a new sim and there is a fee associated with it?

If your current one is working then just don't change it.

Well no, the charger port is actually buggered.

And living far out the closest telkom store is 4h drive one way...

So I figured the 6 month overdue upgrade was time... I can live with a 99 delivery fee, but also though this was strange.

Talking about the SIM itself. Just don't activate the new one they send you.

OP might not have a choice. I renewed my mtn contract on a sim only deal and they couriered a new sim which I didn't need or ask for. The next day I have no network and realise they must have done the swap. So unnecessary though.
