Doing an "upgrade" of sorts. I am sorta sorted for everything else except for the Motherboard and CPU (and case). Budget is R3k for mobo and cpu and about R600 for case.
looking at going for i5 750 any recommendations
Advice is appreciated

I'm not a fan of that ugly USP case. I would suggest the CoolerMaster Elite 430 @ ~R436.56 instead.

If you're on a tight budget and don't think you'll need CrossFire support, then I would suggest the following motherboard for the AMD CPU that Qwikslver suggested:
Asus M4A88TD-M Evo/USB3 AMD880G @ R1130.65
^^ It doesn't have CrossFireX support, but it has SATA3 & USB3 (which that Saphire board that Qwikslver suggested doesn't have).

Has sata 3 just not USB3...

Great amd bundle, what about intel? Pc is a mix of both gaming and productivity, Must also handle video encoding. I dunno why but i've always used intel

If you want to do video encoding on a regular basis, then go for the AMD X6 1055T CPU instead of the AMX X4 965.
OR get an Nvidia graphics card with CUDA :)

I've recently ripped a 70min DVD (720x480 @ 29.97fps) in 5mins using my i7 940 + GTX 460 :D

Btw: what graphics card & power supply do you currently have?

Only problem with the elite 430 is drive bays arent sideways.... I like sideways

How much video encoding do you really do? You could get a 1055T as already mentioned, but I believe the 965 gives you the best of both worlds.

Video encoding is between 12-24 hrs of video per week.
been reading some reviews of the i5 760 vs phenom 2 965 and i5 seems like the better choice. also the 1156 platform seems like the right way in case I may need to sli my 275 with another in the future....
Currently the processors I have to decide between are: Core i5 760 http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_588&products_id=46109 and Phenom 2 965 as quiksliver suggested http://www.prophecy.co.za/socket-phenom2-quadcore-34ghz-black-edition-p-63649.html
Motherboards for 1156 not sure which ones but have the following in mind: http://www.nivo.co.za/#buy~asus.max...tx.motherboard.republic.of.gamers.rog.~p18352 out of my budget range but NIICE and this one http://www.nivo.co.za/#buy~msi.intel.socket.lga1156.atx.motherboard.ms.p55.gd65.~p19231
AMD Mobo: http://www.prophecy.co.za/asus-m4a88tdm-evousb3-amd880g-dual-channel-ddr3-crossfirex-p-68863.html as quiksilver suggested, and I'm not too clued up around AMD

That is one awesome motherboard @ MSI P55 GD65 + it's a very good price (about R300 more at Prophecy Shop)! Just a shame that it doesn't have USB3/SATA3.

If you do that much video encoding, then it might be worth it to go for the i7 950 route, but it would cost your considerably more...
eg. MSI X58A-GD65 @ R2144.34
i7 950 @ R2581.99

I wouldn't run the 275 in SLI, because it just doesn't scale that well as the GTX 460 or the HD 6850/6870!

If you want to sli socket 1156 is the wrong choice. It just doesnt have the bandwidth required for two gtx275s.

Toms hardware run an article on it a while back. Anandtech too.

where they showed that 8x/8x is marginally like 2% max difference (if I remember correctly) worse than 16x/16x

But I also wouldn't sli that card, rather get the new stuff :p

Either AMD or i5 route is fine, but i'd go i5 :D hahaha

Kinda set on going Intel on this one.... AMD maybe next time.... Sorry.... @Quik I think I've realized the uselessness of having sli or Xfire... I don't think I'll pay R3k for an older card... rather sell this one and maybe go Nvidia 5xx or ati 69xx.
Atm I am inclined to the i5 760 Works out to roughly R1750
For a motherboard I'm really not sure what I want... p55 vs h55 asus vs gigbyte vs msi.....?????

Now im even more confused, I've found that Intel are releasing a new chip.... Should my Upgrade be postponed?..... are the new processors really worth the wait?

Sent from my HTC Desire using MyBroadband Android App

ya they got a new chip coming out early next year. Not sure when though? google a bit.
It basically own the current generation six love in all the tests that I've seen..
Worth the wait I think so :) but up to you..

I suggest an ECS H55-HM motherboard and a Intel Core i5-661 Processor -Socket 1156(4M Cache, 3.33 GHz). A good case is the COOLERMASTER CM STORM SCOUT.
