Hi guys,

Looking to upgrade my pc.

I currently have 8700 non k.
16gb 3600 MHz ddr4
Rtx3080
Asus VG34 ultra wide.

I am wanting to get a new CPU and mobo. But I don't want ddr4 just quite yet.
Am I correct in my understanding that the current i5 12400 supports ddr4 and ddr5.

Can someone recommend a motherboard that I can use ddr4 with now and upgrade to ddr5 later.

Then I was thinking 12400 or 12600
Gen 4 nvme SSD.

Why?

You say "But I don't want ddr4 just quite yet" but you specify you have "16gb 3600 MHz ddr4"

Asus VG34 ultra wide tells me you're gaming at 3440x1440 resolution which means there's more load on the GPU than the CPU.

With a 12400 you might gain a few frames but cost wise I don't think it makes a lot of sense. LGA 1700 motherboards are fsck expensive even considering the minimum B660 I would consider. But hey if you're still keen you can send your old cpu&mb my way:p

Yeah I realize it's not really necessary but my ass is itching and the new CPUs are not that expensive.
So essentially I wanted to go new CPU mobo and DDR4 ram, sorry I made a typo in the OP I meant I didn't wanna go ddr5 yet maybe later down the line.

And I wanted to get a new case and a cooler, but I feel it's a waste of time to go and do all that and not upgrade at least something along the lines

Depending on the case and cooler you currently have, there is a potential performance gain from improving those. If temps come down the CPU can boost for longer. May not be an issue in your case, ut it's something to consider.

Also, you can't get a new CPU and mobo and throw them in an old case. Unwritten Rule 88.4.
