Can someone please give me advice concerning an upgrade?

I've got:
Intel Celeron 2.4ghz
512MB DDR400
GeforceFX 5200 256mb !AGP!
And my mobo is only AGP 4X

Would it be worthwhile to upgrade my GPU to a 7600gt AGP?
And maybe another 512mbDDR400

Also if I swapped my motherboard and CPU for an NForce2 with an AthlonXP 2100+ (1,7Ghz), and also AGP 8X, would that give much better performance?

How much better would a new AM2 mobo and PCI-E card be?
e.g:
X2 3800+
512MB ddr2800 x2 (total of 1gb)
plus 7600gt PCI-E

lol.

You definitely want the new mobo, card and chip. They're all cheap as well...

I don't think the swap would be very useful, not much better.

like a whole different pc :D

you should be able to play any game on the shelf

I got an AMD 3800+ with a 7600 and 2GB ram...and I am currently looking into an upgrade. I bought this rig last year and all the games I play run fine except for armed assault :( Which is the main reason for my upgrade

I think when it comes to upgrades, its better to save a little longer and go for something bigger and make it last longer...

Depending on what motherboard you have, you may need to buy a new case too. And your existing ram probably wont work on the new board either which you would also need to buy.

I say..get:
E2160 (set FSB at 333 for 3.0Ghz)
GIGABYTE GA-945GCMX-S2
Any value DDR2 667 1GB

AMD X2 3800+ = R800
Decent mobo = R900
1 GB Ram = R800
7600 GT = R1500

That leaves you with a total of around R4000 for a brand new am2 system.
Shop around a bit and see what you can find but this is about the average price for the specific components.

Hope this helps

Some of those prices are a tad on the expensive side.
You could cut off about 800 from those prices and it would even be an X2 4000+

Just quoted from my head. About what my brothers components cost.

Also depends on if you have a contact at a reseller (Rectron or Sahara) and how much you want to pay for a component. Pay more for more features I suppose.

If you know of a shop that sells it cheaper I am the first person wh wants to know please?:p

Ya ... I'll also sell it cheaper ... :P ... its a price war out there...

Ja, it's more like:

AMD X2 3800+ = R650
Decent mobo = R800
1 GB Ram = R550
7600 GT = R1000

But those are also top of my head :)

Are we talking about you selling these components yourself at that price or do you have a website that you do it from?
I should be taking names for when I next need to upgrade! :)

Yeah ... I sell these components through my company, Digital Addiction. The link is in my signature. If you need anything though ... send me a PM ... because my prices are out of date, so I'll give you better pricing via mail.
