Upgrade from 2mbps to 10mbps

Hi All
Advice please...
Want to upgrade my 2mbps line to 10mbps, except the Telkom Website says the max speed in my area is 4mbps....
I spoke to the telkom technician who did my install, and he says 10mbps is available in my area...

So my question is can i apply for 10mbps although the site says my area is only 4mbps capable?
will telkom "allow" this application?

What i would do is... If it says on Telkom's site that your area only supports 4mbps. it's generally right since they do update it "Regularly". So if you purchased a 10mbps line it may only sync at E.G. 6mbps so you will not be getting your moneys worth.

I would phone Telkom (Speak to someone who is actually competent) and say you would like to upgrade your speed and ask what is the maximum they can give you for your specific house \ apartment. this will be between 1mbps and 20mbps.

If they are only able to give you 5mbps they always try sell you the 10mbps package which we all know is not worth it. so just make sure you are getting your money's worth.

They will look at your SNR & Attenuation on your Router and give you a specific mbps download thats the fastest possible.

OR (long way)

Just simply order a 4mbps line, and see if that is fast enough for you. If not, then speak to a person at Telkoms hotline and ask whats the max you can get.

Can you post router line stats, could help give us an indication if your line could even support it.
 
Please... Telkom does not update anything even remotely "regularly". Had the same thing here, it all depends on distance from exchange and SNR and shiznits, but if further then 2km away, take 4 meg it will save you allot of time and money because you wont have to deal with useless telscum "regularly".
 
I say upgrade to 4meg then look at your line stats.

Noise Margin - 43.8 db (down) and 43.8 db (up)

Those are amazing stats. You might be able to get 20Meg even.
 
ohh wow ok..
but like i said Telkom says the max line "speed" is 4mbps, but again today i spoke to the techie who did my install, and he says 10mbps is supported...dont know how to go about getting it though, as callcentre says otherwise..

+1 20Mbps easy with those stats. I suggest you send a pm to Charl @TelkomZA and ask if you are on a newish dlsam or IMAX then you might even be able to get 20Mbps ADSL2+

Yeah the website is not so accurate. It shows my area as max 10Mbps but I was on a 20Mbps profile....
