So I play online with my PS3 and I'm tired of shooting at guys and missing and then they turn around and ond shot and I'm dead. Even worse is multiplayer on Uncharted 2 where every now and then I just freeze for like 10 seconds. Anyway I call Telkom yesterday and get told the same story that my exchange only supports 512 but this time the woman says she can put in an order to upgrade my exchange to 4mb and it should take 7 working days and I'll have a 4meg line. Is this true and should I wait or should I call back today and speak to someone else.

I would like to know this too. wanted to upgrade a while back and the thing on the other side of the phone just said. sorry you cant go higher than 512.

nothing about...maybe we can install an upgrade and bla bla bla...uhm no thanks I like having outdated stuff.

check my sig dude...its sick.

Don't worry Guys. I done it.They told me mine can only go until 512kb for more than a year. I then mailed them just over a month and said i would like to upgrade. I then quoted something off there website which states they will test your maximum line speed by going down in 32kbps increments. I am now currently on 4mb. I am more than 3km from the exchange, so that thing where they say you must be within the range is lies. My friend then also upgraded and he is like 2 houses away. He is also on 4mb. So to answer your question, yes you will be upgraded!!!

Your problem is not your bandwidth but the lag that you are experiencing i.e. It is taking 500ms for example to speak to the server and the another 500ms to get the message back to your PS3 by which time you are dead.

Increasing your bandwidth is not going to make any difference to the lag you are experiencing. There are two options available which would give you less lag,

1. Switch to an unshaped account (available from most ISP's at an extra charge), will give you less lag, depends on which server you are connecting to but in wow a standard shaped telkom account is around 500ms, unshaped is around 300ms
2. Play on local servers, much less lag, usually around 50ms or thereabouts, not sure if this is even an option on the PS3

Good luck

Ya dude I understand that but going from Do2 to Do3 means I'll be going from 384k to 4meg so as I understand it that should reduce the lag considerably.

It won't really, most online games only run at between 25Kb/s - 30Kb/s so it won't really make much of a difference seeing as most 384 lines get 36Kb/s - 40Kb/s.

If there are a whole bunch of people in your house using the internet at the same time as you then the increase will make a difference otherwise your best bet is to get an unshaped account.

Ok but from what I heard most guys on 4meg don't get the lag I do. I also tried a shaped account and unshaped and no real difference.

Yes. Thats also true Neoassasin. I played on Xbox live, Fifa soccer, and i used to get lag so i stopped playing, now i play without a slight bit of lag. It runs smooth on 4mb.

afraid i have to agree, cant see how a faster line improves latency

But i have seen it. I had hectic button lag on FIFA 09 - Fifa10. When i changed over from 384k to 4mb i had button lag twice since then. That was just in the beginning. I have had Fifa 10 since it was out. Played about 16 games online.
