I have an older, grey UTD which I would like to upgrade to a newer, black unit. A friend has a spare unit which he is not using. Replacement is not blacklisted. The reason for the upgrade is because I have an omni antenna and pigtail compatible with the newer unit which I'm keen to try. I'm too lazy to try to find the pigtail for the older unit.

The question is - is there any administrative connection between the particular modem you use and your iBurst account? Or can you swap them out at will? I currently connect by means of PPPoE via a router. Lastly (bonus points, just wondering), is there a possibility of "pairing" the old and new UTD's? Thanks for any info.

You need to call the call centre on 087 720 7200 and ask them to link the new modem to your account. You can have up to three devices linked, so no need to unlink the old one.

See here.

Thanks ginggs, that did the trick. Average speed immediately up from a measly 250 Kbit/s average to 600 Kbit/s just by chucking the antenna out the window. Fun on the roof when the sun is shining again! If I get around to trying both UTD's together I'll post my findings.
