hi guys this is my 1st post:-)
i got my pc off ebay a year ago and is pretty rubbish so i would like to do a upgrade
i am not a heavy gamer so i would not spend a lot on the upgrade. please help!

current system:
i7 870
4gb dd3 ram
asrock h55m-le
5770
unknow brand 450w psu + unknow case lol
500gb seagate 7200 drive

i would like to change to elite 330 case, cx 600 psu and 6950(i would like to link to my 27 imac). i would like to know is the psu enough for 6950 and will the case fit the card? i may also add another ssd to my system later.
i know the motherboard is pretty crap but i think is enough at the moment?

Welcome to the forums.

The CX600 PSU would be more than capable to drive your system with an HD 6950. Even the CX500 would be capable of running the i7 870 + HD 6970 + HDD + SSD.

I would urge you to get a better case than the crappy Elite 330. The smallest case that I would recommend for a gaming PC would be the Coolermaster Elite 430.

Just keep your existing motherboard. It would be more worth while to do a full upgrade than just upgrading your motherboard.

thanks for the reply. i read the requirement for the 6950 and it requires a minimum of 500w psu so im thinkin 600w will be more safe and could also use for future ungrade?
430 is cheap too so i dnt mind but i am really concern about the size of the card coz it is pretty big.
i would also like to know the performance between the 6850 and 6950 coz i only play fifa, pes 11, nba 2k11.

The HD 6850's performance increase over the HD 5770 is minimal, unless you play DX11 games at high resolutions (1920x1080+). See http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6850/28.html

The performance from the HD 6950 on the other hand is incredible. It's going to give you ~100% FPS increase - see http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6950/29.html

I don't know how intensive those sports games are and if it's really worth it to upgrade your graphics card for those games. You can run fraps to check out your framerate, and if it's below 40, then it could be worth while for you to do the upgrade.

I have 2x GTX 460 1GB OC cards and for the past week I've been playing with just once, since I borrowed the other one for my friend and the games (BF:BC2 & CoD:BO) that I play are running just fine @ 1680x1050, but I had to OC the card even further and disable AA & AF.
It was quite funny to see that my friend's PC wasn't able to use more than 75% of the GTX 460 - even when we overclocked his C2D E6750 to 3GHz.

i played all games in 1920x1080.
the other reason why i would like to change my card is because the 27 imac does not support 5770(it does support 6 series cards) and the res for the imac is 2560x1440.

it is very weird.. some 5 series work wit the imac but 5770 dnt...
mine is i5 266 with 512 of 4670.
i changed my mind to Coolermasters Storm Scout
i just read some forum and some says 6950 wnt fit Coolermasters Storm Scout but some says it will. any knows the answer?

The HD 6950 won't fit in the Storm Scout, unless you modify the 3.5" HDD bay.

The Elite 430 can take those long cards.

Update:
You can also look at the Coolermaster HAF 912 case.

hey thanks a lot! i decided to go for the 430 as it could support up to 12 inch card!
do you have any recommended fan for the case? thanks a lot!!!

Yes. I'd recommend that you get at least one more 120mm fan if you want to keep your system temperatures fairly low.

I would add 1x 120mm fan at the rear and then cable-tie/strap another 120mm fan in the 5.25" compartment in front - but this is only necessary if your CPU generate lots of heat, like when you're overclocking. I've done this with my CM 690 II Advanced case. I've also moved my top 140mm fan to the bottom, which made a massive difference, so it might be better to place the 120mm fan at the bottom, instead of one in front with cable-ties.

I don't own a CM Elite 430 case, so I actually can't comment much on it's cooling. 1 graphics card and 1 CPU that isn't being overclocked doesn't have such a big toll on the ambient temperatures like what I experienced with my 2 overclocked GTX 460's + i7 940.
There should be quite a few people on this forum who has that exact case that should be able to give you better/more accurate recommendations though. If not, I'll ask on Twilight Gaming forums, because I know quite a few there has it :)

thanks a lot!! i think i will get two nexus D12SL-12(one at the back and one at the bottome or top)
i dnt thnk i will overclock coz this is enough for my use thank you!!!

tbh i still kinda wana get the scout coz i like the handle and the look lol
but i have to get the dremel to mod it... too much trouble!

I'd guess if you have a steel saw and file that you should be able to mod the 3.5" HDD cage for the HD 6950 to fit in the Storm Scout.

The Storm Scout is really and awesome case for LAN's.

i would like to install 1 fan at the back, i fan at the top and i fan at the door. but i just checked that the h55m only has 1 3pin slot. do you think i can get a y splitter so that i can connect the fan at the back and top to the motherboard? (really should hv change this board but budget limited:-()
thank you very much!!
