Hey guys,

I need some advice.

I currently have a 512Kb line. With that I've taken Openweb's 30Gig local account as well. I've been downloading allot off the IS news server but seem to peak at +-55Kb on a good day.

I know people have made mention that IS throttles connections ect. My question to that is....would I get better download speeds from their news server if I upgraded my line to a 1Meg?

Cheers
J

Well my 4mbps line works nicely on the news servers with cached content. Can download at between 330kb/s and 420kb/s. Lately its been more 360kb/s +-. (4 or 5 conc. connections)

Damn that's fast!!!

I'm just not sure if it's worth the upgrade though...I'm concerned about how long this "trial" of theirs is going to run on the 1/4 Meg line.

I think its permanent now. Remember its up to 4mbps so in most cases ppl wont see 4mbps speeds. I went 4mbps cos after being on dial up i wanted a proper CHANGE so forking out a bit more. Honestly R500 for 4mbps isnt bad at all. Its just the ISP charges at the end of the day that are quite expensive cos if u are not careful u can clock 5GB in 4 hours.
