The following 3 Android phones are available: LG Optimus One P500, HTC Wildfire and SE X10 mini. Several users complain about dust finding its under the screen of the LG and some reviewers complain about the Wildfire & X10's screen resolution and the X10's out of date OS. What do you guys suggest for a 1st time Android guyperson?

Oh and what's the battery life like?

Motorola defy is a great phone for it's price. It's rugged and faster then the wildfire with a better screen also.

What about all the new ones being announced?

Optimus Black
HTC Sensation
Samsung Galaxy SII?

Or are you looking for the cheaper phones?

I have to agree with the others, don't get any of those, rather go for the Motorola MB525 (known as the Defy everywhere except in SA)

It is a bit more expensive than the 3 your mentioned, but I chose mine on the MTN TopUp 100 for R130 per month (so R30 extra to cover the extra device cost).

My wife has the LG Optimus One, also a great phone.

If you have to take one of those three, get the LG. By far better than the Wildfire (I can say that out of personal experience, a friend of mine has a Wildfire) and from the specs it is better than the X10.

P.S. when you feel adventurous you can install Cyanogenmod on your Defy :)

They're the ones available for my contract upgrade. Unfortunately the Defy isn't available either.

Those are in a completely different price range. Awesome phones, but much much more expensive.

Oh so the MB525 is the Defy. It's on the list :D

Woot, get it then! It is an awesome phone, I love mine.

If you are worried about the lack of confirmation about a 3D chip, mine plays Need for Speed Shift flawlessly.

Whatever you do dont get the X10 Mini. Its really not a good phone at all. The X10i is a great phone though if its still available.

I would seriously pay a little more every month and see if I can secure an HTC Desire HD.
The Motorola Defy is cool but I have used both and in my personal experience, there is quite a large gap between the two.

The HTC Sensations and Galaxy SII are too expensive I guess and would require large pay-ins.

This doesn't seem like a bad option and it seems decently priced as well. Not sure if it's available on contracts yet though...
