I am currently on a Business Contract (R185 p/m) and due for an upgrade now. Vodacom wants a downpayment of R6509 on the i-mate JASJAR on the same Business Contract, but it seems that MTN is way cheaper (I think something like R2000 downpayment on their ProCall contracts?) Any input or suggestions from anyone?

Also, is 3G a separate subscription or does it work like GPRS/EDGE?

Thanks.

Hi there

Jip, Vodacom is expensive when it comes to handsets on contracts.

MTN has got the Jasjar on Procall 120 for R1700.

You don't have to subscribe for 3G, it must just be activated. You can subscribe if you want a package then it works out a bit less per MB.

Easy one that:

MTN is the major shareholder of Leaf Wirelss - the local distributors of iMate, hence they get first choice and the best rates on them.

On data, yeah 3G/Edge/gprs is all billed the same. Video calls however are not, nor are they available across networks.

Whaaaa ... I've just phoned Vodacom regarding an upgrade on a Call 120 (+- R350 per month) and the upgrade cost is round R6500 ... are these guy's nuts ... I can't wait for number portability so I can move to MTN.

Iv'e found if you just threaten to switch service providers (and be willing to do it) they normally come up with a much better price.

I just had to threaten Nashua that I will take my 3 contracts away from them and they halved the cost for the upgrade I wanted.
