Just curious whether anyone has actually done successful "upgrade" style path recently?

Everytime I ended up replacing the majority anyway at the end....

Think I might be able to do one minor upgrade round this time thanks to AM4 (3700x > ?) and a gen 4 PCIE mobo (2070S > ?) but that's about it.

Given the GPU shortage whenever that calms down that's probably when the above "?" start making sense. Maybe something AMD Smart Access Memory based

Why, what you have is fine?

I would not buy a gpu now, madness.
More of a general question as to what people's thinking is - i.e. is it worth bothering trying to upgrade at all. As opposed to hang on longer and replace everything

Definitely not buying anything until microprocessor stuff settles down which will be late 2022 I'm guessing

As it is you're definitely not in need of an upgrade and with pricing as it is, obviously hold off.

Going 5000-series on the CPU is an upgrade, though depending on your usage, possibly not a necessary one. GPU upgrades are the same as they always have been. The newer cards are faster and nice to have, but it depends on the realse price of your current GPU vs the price of a replacement. In normal times it woul dbe worth looking at, but not currently.

Nah, you have zero need to upgrade right now. That said if you have a real itch I'll give you my account number and we can spend it on hookers & blow gta v style!

and possibly not even a noticeable one if you game at anything higher than 1080p.

My pc was giving me some issues yesterday and I almost died at the thought of having to replace certain parts now. If I had to, I'd rather just wait, save my money, and then buy a whole new PC when the shortages end.

Upgrade is always the better option. Can keep loads of components. Case, screen, mouse,kb,hard drives, case fans.
