Upgraded a machine to windows 7

How do I restore windows vista backup files to it?

Afaik the Vista backups are OS included? I remember something like that.
Otherwise, check if the file is executable.

Windows 7 does not seem to think it's a backup.
no executables.

I am currently setting up a virtualbox and will just restore in there.

Ok. Yeah if I remember correctly (in my very short period of using Vista) you could only do a "system backup" that would copy your entire partition to disk.
