Well the title kind of says it all.

Compiz was running like a dream smooth and very very responsive. Upgraded to 8.10 and now its slow and annoying (at least the cube bit).

Using intel GMA3000 onboard graphics, upgrade didn't change the driver as far as i can tell.

One interesting change was that in Hardy I was having screen resolution issues which i had to fix by running a separate command (automatically) at startup. That seems to have been fixed nicely but now my blessed cube has gone to hell.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Compiz isn't fully supported by 8.10. You can make it work, but you'd have to tweak it to perfection.

Surely that makes no sense, how does it go from working like a dream to sucking balls?

Any advice on how to tweak it? would rolling back to 0.7.6 of compiz be helpful or disastrous?

No idea. Canonical simply said it does not support it, so I haven't tried it.

sorry just to clarify im talking about compiz fusion.

I assume thats what you're talking about too?

Yes. I haven't heard about any possible support solutions recently but this was part of the original plans for Intrepid.

Sorry to drag this up again but MY COMPIZ IS WORKING LIKE A DREAM!!!!

Faster than ever on Intrepid, I had my desktop set up to have 4 different backgrounds (controlled by compiz). When i decided that I preferred to have desktop icons and gave the task of drawing the backgrounds back to nautilus everything came springing back to life.

So responsive it hurts. God i love ubuntu
