Upgrading a Mac Mini

Don't see any reason why not.

The biggest issue I'd try and check is if another Mac Mini user is using that ram.

Most RAM should work as its a PC board after all, but sometimes you experience Kernel panics on some brands, which is a pain.

Additionally make sure you've got a set of laptop screwdrivers - I think I needed about 5 different bits when opening mine.

Hi everyone,

I am planning on buying the 2.5ghz mac mini (late 2012) and performing a manual upgrade with the following parts:

RAM:

SSD:

Are both these components compatible with the Mac Mini?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

I did this exact upgrade when I got my mini. It is a very quick and easy upgrade but can be a little tense if you not use to taking PC / Macs apart as you have to remove alot of screws and parts of the mini to access the HDD bay. But it is definitely worth the effort tho.

Thanks for the advice everyone :) @weelzSA, have you had any difficulties with Kernel panics? I was tempted to go the hackintosh route, but I really want the system to be stable. My concern is that some Macs don't play nicely with non-branded RAM.

I never had any problems. I replaced with 16gig Corsair ram (which I checked online and saw it was compatible with mac) and a Kingston Hyper X SSD and everything worked perfect from day one.
