Upgrading ADSL from 384 to 4mb

Hi

Sorry if this has been asked before :) but how long does the above take for telkom to do?

If I had to phone telkom tommorow (monday) would I get the increased speeds by tuesday?

heastrong, some users from what I have read here, got upgraded within 2 - 15 min after they contacted telkom, other folks wasnt so lucky.. so cross your fingers and hope that you maybe one of the lucky one's... :)
 
I did it - went from closer 4 to closer 5. Was active the minute I put down the phone, even though that said it would take 7 days!

What a difference....seeing 400Kbps downloads is something, especially when you used to 40Kbps if ur lucky!

If they upped the 3 gigs on the 4Mb package and kept it below 300 bucks I think we would've all been on the 4Mb bandwagon, pity it's so freakin expensive to the average person :(

Ah well, at least I have my 384 to keep me happy...

Damn I remember being blown way by 40kbps. Sadly it is no longer good enough.

Why can't I quench this thirst :mad:
 
I've upgrade my 384k to 4mbit and while I was busy on the phone with the person doing the upgrade my connection went dead for a few seconds and when it got connected again I had my 4mbit.

I was told 72 hours.;)

That was excellent service from Telkom.:D
 
mine took 8 days , and my line still doesnt support it properly. its on 4mb but i can only sync at 992 if im lucky haha :(
 
Mine took 5 hours (192-->512) and then about another day after that when I decided to go from 512 to 1Mb (4Mb)....Good service for once for Telkom :)
 
Sounds like telkom are willing to upgrade ppl quickly coz then they will be paying more! haha!!

One more question... How do they bill you? what happens if you switch at end of the month? and get like 1 day worth of the increases speed... do you still pay the full amount?

it's pro rata. you get credited for the portion of the month you didn't have the slower speed. and then charged for the portion of the month you are getting the higher speed.
 
iirc mine took about 7 months after the upgrade request fell through the cracks. :eek:
 
Pro rated is fine. at least im not being ripped off!

swak bwana.. that is typical of telkom though!
 
muahahaha got the upgrade after 5 minutes.... 10 times quicker, it's insane :D :D :D
 
Heh... I asked for an upgrade early in April. I'm still waiting for it - my exchange has apparently "never been tested beyond 384k, so conformance testing has to be done". This is apparently scheduled for the 30th of June... Oh well. Only three more weeks... Except that I'm going to be out of town from the 29th for over a week, so I won't even be able to check if it's done! Ugh.
So yea... A speed upgrade could easily take three or more months... Don't hold your breath.
