I'm hoping someone can assist.

I'm with Afrihost and line WS w/ AH.

I've had a 4mbps line in Oct, and downgraded due to not using it that much. I now want to desperately go back to 4mbps or higher - and now AH is telling me that I can only get a max speed of 2mbps and that's all my line can handle. But I was told by Telkom that my exchange was upgraded in December and that it now can go upto 10mbps and that I can get that speed?!?

I also don't understand that I've had a faster line before and now it isn't.

Telkom is reluctant to help as my line is WS to AH and AH is spinning me around in circles, saying that 2mbps is all I can get.

I think I'm on the Rosebank exchange and my tel is 011447####.

Any suggestions??

I've thought of moving my line back to Telkom and then dealing with them directly.

Rather deal directly with Telkom. It sounds as if your ISP is spreading a spin story.

Hi Chevron,

The thing is when ISP upgrade the line speed they send the information through to telkom who say's if it is possible.

But you say that you downgraded the overall line speed to 2mb which means that the ISP does not have access to do this via Uniweb (telkom line support tool which all ISP's uses) so it tells you the maximum line speed they can upgrade on the profile you have, but due to the fact the agent dealing with probably saw you have a max speed of 2 mb on the Uniweb tool advised that you can only get 2mb now.

if you type you number into the below link
http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/#.UvkAUnB_O-M

you will see this will tell you the max line speed your area supports, just note that you would not always get this line speed as the varibles such as distance, noise plays a big effect on the speed.

Regards

Hey guys,

just thought I'll let you know that eventually got my line upgraded.

Guy at AH that was great help; sorted with some Telkom guys to do a manual intervention and I got my line upgraded to 4mbps, even tough all the software tools still says that I can only get 2mbps (Telkom & Ah).

I knew there was a way & just because "computer says noo", doesn't mean it's true!
