I have a Vodacom Talk130 contract. It is a voice/airtime contract only. No phone.

I think i'm over a year into the contract now already.

I was wondering, will I be able to upgrade the contract early, to say the Smart S contract with a Samsung Galaxy S4? Without having to pay an arm and a leg, as there is no phone attached to the contract.

Anyone had any experiences with a situation like this?

You need to have a minimum average spend per month of R800.00 to be eligible for a prem upgrade.

Even though there is no phone attached? Damn. According the to UG SMS I can only Upgrade on the 4th of Feb 2014.

If there is no phone attached then you most likely got another benefit ... such as reduced subs.

Lol. Checked my statement now. You're right. Scored a whole R36 discount each month. woop dee doo. Lol.

You'd think because there is no phone attached to the contract, therefor there is nothing that is actually owed to vodacom, they'd allow a premature upgrade to a more expensive contract, with less minutes, data, etc.

But then again, Cell Phone providers don't usually make much business sense at all sometimes :-)

I you took a contract without a phone then you would have got the discount then.

I'm pretty sure you can cancel or upgrade a contract like that right away, the CPA allows for that.

I understand what you are saying ... but a contract is a contract. You would have been informed about the discount you will receive instead of a phone, however small it might be and you accepted.

Best I can advise is for you to phone 0821959 and ask them if they are willing to assist.

You have my attention :-)
Do you have any references perhaps about this in the CPA?

They never actually told me I'm receiving a discount instead of a phone. It also didn't say that anywhere on the pamphlet as I recall. I recall it stating something along the following. "Get a Voice Only contract. Perfect for those who don't need a new phone." or something like that.

I'll call that number at 12.

I don't have a link but there was something about them having to allow you to pay your way out of the contract... and that amount should be the balance of what is owed on the phone and a "cancellation fee".

If you don't have a phone there should just be a the cancellation, I don't see why they shouldn't wave this if you want to upgrade instead of canceling.

I'm going to give it a shot at 12. Will post my feedback

For the number or for all the contracts on your name?

Can you check what the average monthly spend is?
