I'm currently on a VC contract, which expires on 3 August.

I want to "upgrade" to a data only plan, but I'm not sure when to do it. If I upgrade now, what happens to the last month and a bit - am I charged for both contracts? Or should I wait till 1 August, but then how long does it take for the new contract to kick in?

Also, if I go to a data contract, do I not have voice at all, or is it just prepaid voice?

Their plans are all very confusing :)

First you need to find out if you can convert a voice contract to a data contract.

if that is a allowed you should be able to upgrade immediately(if you're eligible) and only pay for the new contract.

Why do you want to continue using a contract? Prepaid is the way to go, contracts are for suckers and poor people.

Wrong way around. Prepaid is for people who are poor/students or those who have no self control so need a system to help themselves manage their spend.

There are more important things in life to worry than an airtime balance.
