So, Vodacom is set to launch a 3GB for R199 x 24 month promotion contract on Thursday. If someone is currently on the 2GB for R149 x 24 month contract, will they be able to upgrade to the 3GB contract?

If so, would the 24 month term start from scratch again?

If you are due for your upgrade, then yes, you may go onto the 3gig did. Contract will then be extended for 24 months as per the deal.

Considering the timing of the promotions people who got the 2+2Gig "early" last year are out of luck.

Wait wait, if I understand you correctly, the answer is actually: No. And what you've presented is the exception to the rule, right?

I am not following you.

Okay, let's lay this out in detail, because maybe I am not understanding you correctly.

Let's say I have a 2GB for R149 pm x 24 contract. And let's say I would like to instead have the 3GB for R199 pm x 24 contract.
1. Can I simply upgrade the contract?
2. You mentioned "if you are due for your upgrade". What conditions need to be met in order for me to be "due" for my upgrade?

Let's start with those 2 questions, and we can perhaps flesh it out a bit more, depending on the detail and clarity of your response.

My appologies. I did not realise I was being unclear. The Mofaya deals (1 & 2 gigs) are 24 month contracts. The one that ran about a year ago was a 12 month contract. You need to have reached your upgrade date should you want to migrate to the 3gig Mofaya deal. If you have not reached your upgrade date (normally month 22 within your 24 month contract), then you may take out a additional new line for the 3gig deal...meaning you will then have one sim with the 2gig deal and then a additional sim with the 3gig deal. And before anyone asks, no, we are not able to merge the two deals into one sim.

Aah, thank you so much. Perhaps it was not a case of you not being unclear, perhaps I was just lacking certain comprehension skills.

But yes, that does lay it out for me clearly. And it makes me hesitate signing up for the 3GB deal. If something better comes out, e.g. R500 for 10GB x 24 months, it means I am effectively stuck on the "worse" package until the last 3 months of the contract. Which is pretty much like being kicked in the nuts by VC (which, I assume, is exactly how the 2GB for R149 contract customers feel right now).

Anyway, thank you for clearing that up.
