Hi All

I have a HP Compaq DX 7400 Microtower, at the moment it has its stock 300w PSU in. I am looking to upgrade my Graphics card from the Asus 8800 i have to a Radeon Sapphire HD4850 512mb and also upgrade the psu to something with a bit more punch. I am looking at the Gigabyte ODIN 585w psu. Now i have compared the sizes of the two psu's and they appear to be the same size, my question is is this upgrade possible, will the case be able to house the new psu.
Any Advice would be gr8.
Thanx

I have the exact same PSU running a HD4850, no problems at all. Its a really good PSU for people on a buget

That's if the gigabyte will fit. It's only really a 500watt psu though. 585watts is the peak output.

I read a few reviews and all points to it being a really good psu. My real problem is whether the Odin will work in the Dx7400. I measured my current psu and compared it to the specs on the gigabyte website, my current psu is actually a bit bigger than the Odin. My logic tells me that most, if not all, psu's are roughly the same size, except maybe the big 1000+ W mothers. My biggest fear is that it will blow the motherboard or something. Again my logic is telling me it should be fine as most desktop pc's are designed with a little upgrading in mind. If anybody has an HP Microtower that they upgraded, PSU especially let me know what i should look out for. For now i'll propably just take out my current psu and take it with when i go bye the Odin.

If the dimensions are the same, then by all means get it.

I am not sure even if you bought a 1000w that it would blow your pc as surely it only draws what it needs and does not need to draw more than it would need?

Thanks for all the advice. Now i just have to wait for payday and i can go buy the psu and the Ati HD 4580.

Gigabyte one will be plenty.

Even a 460watt PSU will be fine, such as the Cooler Master Extreme Power 460watt.
