Upgrading... Nokia N81 or something else???

Thanks dj_jyno, that was what I looked at first, but the battery life on my N80 is really pathetic and it seems from reviews that the N82 is no better, and if I actually want to make use of the GPS, I need it to last more than 24 hours. And I'm too stingy to pay in...

Agree.. i'm also stingy when it comes to that....

I'm on a talk 240 at the moment, but don't need all that airtime anymore (the girlfriend has become the wife so I no longer need to talk to her ;-) ), so I'll be taking a talk 120 at R300 a month. The 6210 Navigator is free on that as far as I can tell.

Surely you'll want to talk with your new girlfriend?

Id suggest the N81! Its a fantastic phone,it has the best audio quality on the phone market. I had a N80 before getting my N81. Unfortunetly my N80 died a month ago, but i already had my N81. Ive had this baby since December07, so i had a lot of time to compare it to my N80. The N81 is A LOT faster, it has much larger display with 16M colours, its display is a lot more colourful, brighter, and the quality is amazing, obviously not as smooth as N80 but close enough. The battery life is double what the N80 could do and a bit more lol. Theres LOADS of RAM (40-44MB) for multitasking, i remember my N80 was terrible at this but N81 has tremendusly improved on this. N81 also has Wi-Fi, great loudspeakers, Ngage Gaming in Landscape mode with Gaming keys, and its incredibly fast around the menus. I flashd and updated my N81 to the latest N81 APAC V20 FW and now it has the new Menu Effects and Transitions found in the N78 and N96 FP2 platform. If you realy need a GPS the N81 comes with NOKIA MAPS preinstalled and all you need to do is buy a Bluetooth GPS Reciever. :-) the N81 is perfect for you.

Thank you very much...You just made me 100% certain to get the phone! :D I've been looking at themes and stuff already... As you can see I can't sleep because I'm excited (look at the time of the post) even though it is still a week to go before I upgrade. I don't really need a GPS, had a look at the Nokia Maps application, it's quite handy on its own, so I can plan my route before I drive. I also saw a video on YouTube about that FP2 transition effects, that just puts the cherry on the top. I never actually had a phone with loads of memory to put music on so I guess this will be my first and I won't be dissapointed. Just have one question, can you tell me if it has animated themes? I had a look on that Zedge website, there are quite a few animated themes there, which if I'm not mistaken works with Flash. Do you have to download extra software to do this? Thanks really appreciate your reply. Now just can't wait to get the phone!!! :D

Yes it supports animated themes and has FlashLite2.0 built-in already so you dont any extra software as far as i know.Ye its great for music, its headset even comes with a full remote control. Are you getting the 8GB model?

Cool, thanks :D Unfortunately I can only get the normal one with 2gb, otherwise I have to pay in and don't have any money to do that right now :( but hey, I've not even been able to fill a 256mb memory card, so 2gb gona keep me quite some time. Is there any difference between the 2gb and 8gb model, other that the amount of memory?

Thats good. The 2GB model is actualy better because it can access the data in the mass storage faster since it uses a memory card, and you can expand it to up to 32GB, but im guessing 2GB is more than enough for you. :-)
When you do get it the 1st thing i suggest you do is set EVERYTHING to be saved in the memory card: Messages, Applications, Themes, and Ngage games especially, it only has 25mb internal memory, and when installing apps and games into the memory card it dumps little bits of their system info and folders into the internal memory, thats what its there for.
Theres no other differences between the 8gb and 2gb besides the memory.

Thanks so much for the info! Can't wait to get the phone, already downloaded themes and tones for it. Now it's just 8 more days, hoping it really goes quick, but then again I'm writing an exam next week which I'm not looking forward to. But anyway, thanks for the tips, will make sure I install everything on the memory card.

HI - I've got the N81 but would like to upgrade to V20FW. How did you go about upgrading it? I've got V11FW and when trying to upgrade online it says that I have the latest version.

Would appreciate your assistance
