I need some advice on this:

I have a desktop PC with LGA 775 Motherboard and a Intel due core , however my son keeps on compaling it is very slow.

I have removed all unwanted software, did all the normal defrags etc.

I know there is some ATI display card in as well, so i would pref if i can keep and use the the HDD, display card, memory etc and use it on a new motherboard with maybe an I3 or I5 chip.

Also, do not know if the current power supply would be able to power a new Board?

Thanks,

Hi could u give your budget ? well to be honest if u want to upgrade u will almost scrap every thing. expect HDD and dvd drive ( sadly)

I want to keep it as cheap as possible, he only plays Simms and Minecraft on the damn thing!

A graphics card upgrade is likely to silence the complaining more than anything else. If you're willing to go 2nd hand you can easily score something nice that is a massive upgrade without breaking the bank.

But you'll have to post actual model numbers etc. Current info isn't nearly enough.

But yes you'll need to ditch most of it for an actual upgrade.

U have 2 options

A) get a old quad core cpu ( If u can find them ) and some more ram and a better display card

B) get a upgrade kit.. will cost about 3k-4k and upgrade to i3

Would be nice if u can post the CPU,RAM,Display card info

How much you Ram running?

Thanks so far, i will open it up over the weekend and post all the specifics.

I know the Ram slots are full and Win 7 only sees half of if, would it be 8 mb and Win 7 only sees 4mb?

thats the x86 restriction. usually caused by the operating system, but could also be hardware....again can't be sure until you post proper info.
