Hey dudes, we might upgrade our 512 line to 4mbps soon, I just have some questions.

How long does the upgrade normally take? How much does it cost to upgrade, I spoke to telscum, but I forgot to ask. (If I remember correctly it's free?)

Telscum says it will be R154 more, since we have a business line. I'm not exactly sure how long we've had adsl, it feels like two years. When we got adsl, we signed the 24 month contract.

Is telscum still overcharging people for breaking the contract if they upgrade?

How will we be billed for the end of the month?

Thanks dudes
tera ;)

nope its an additional 154 rand more than 512

upgrade free

sometimes 10 minutes sometimes 2 weeks depends on telkom as to when the upgrade is done

also in august 4 meg line will be alot cheaper so you might as well upgrade

also i can say that 4 meg line is a wet dream man

although during the day your 4 meg line is as fast as a 512k line

not on the IS news server though

Yip, I said it was R154 more ;) :D :p

Thanks killa, and the contract thing?

/me points Teraside to this rule

heheheh, you wish china! :p

Btw. what internet connection do you use TIAL? I don't think you've ever mentioned it, or it seems you never have problems with it? ;)

Yip, I was a bit flustered at the beginning when we just got adsl, had to get to grips with everything and I didn't know about myADSL, so the contract wasn't entirely voluntary, but rather because of misinformation ;) :D :p

If 4Mb was R350 with line rental + analogue I would've got it :( But seeing as AT&T in the US offer naked DSL (DSL without a voice service) I don't see why we should pay R100pm for analogue :(.

This has nothing to do with the topic I know, just a random rant ;)

Hey Tera, as far as a contract goes, if you've signed a 24month contract and break it before 18months, you will be charged a penalty, but if you only break it after 18months, no penalty should be charged. They just simply change it to 4mb if u wish to reapply for a contract.

I upgraded to a 4mb line in about March, we broke our contract by something crazy like 5months, so we had a penalty of R1200.

Well, all I can say is, 4mb was worth it :D

as long as you have a nice big cap

Thanks Peppercorns, I'll be sure to ask them about the contract ;)

I really appreciate your help. Cap size should stay at 3GB unfortunately, but I will be buying an openweb account in future :D ;) :p

I got the 4mb line when they moved on trial. Wow.. the speed was excellent.. even on torrents! But nowadays...512k during the day. Sometimes spike over 1024k. Afterhours.. it moves!

yeah im also upgrading from 384k to 4mb hopefully by next week.. nice to c the Telkom closer packagers coming down in august... however i doubt my line will support 4mb... As someone said... u need a healthy line to support 4mbs
