Refurbished smartphones in South Africa

Pre-owned, refurbished smartphones could be the answer for many South Africans worried about being left behind when the country switches off its 2G and 3G networks. Several companies now offer affordable pre-owned devices.

While the final deadline for the shutting down of South Africa's 2G and 3G networks is still under debate, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies previously said it wants to ban the activation of devices that use this technology by 31 December 2024.

I've purchased numerous Apple refurbs directly from Apple US but never an iPhone due to their decision to remove the sim tray from US models from the 14 and up. Seeing as eSim is gaining traction I might reconsider next time around.

Won't take long for them to price these out of the market as well. and no one wants a cloud phone either.

None of those are what I would consider affordable.
The people that live in squatter camps in our area buy the cheapest phones they can, I'm talking R100 to R300 and not just because they earn from a R300pm sassa grant to a couple hundred a weekend working part time as domestics but also because a more expensive phone makes you a target and you will lose it anyway.
