Listening to some music over the weekend, at spirited listening levels, I couldn’t help noticing that some tracks sounded flat, lifeless at times
Especially Queen, AC DC just to name a few, then looked into what was actually playing - Remastered albums. Green as they come, I wasn’t sure why it sounded flat and kak, I started digging, firstly, great it’s not my amp or speakers but this lovely thing called “loudness war” where a lot of new music being remastered was actually being capped. Stumbling across a nice few videos explaining it a bit more and it just all made sense why some albums sounded lifeless

You'll discover that there are not many recordings that make the cut as 'audiphile' quality, especially from 1990's on. You are correct about the 'loudness war', but often it seems the artists or their producing agents just don't care. More recent better recordings came from artists like Leonard Cohen, e.g. "Banjo" & "You want it darker" from 2014/16 albums. Also try "My Confession" by Gotan Project and 'A thousand kisses deep' by Chris Botti. Best recordings come from 1960's and 70's imho. (E.g. James Last Orchestra, Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon (e.g. 'Time')

For some time i was wondering about the quality of recordings - are some better than others, or was it my imagination !
I've found Simple Minds recordings to be really good, consistently.
A flatmate of mine from years and years back, was going out with a girl from switzerland.
One day she announced her uncle (also swiss) was coming to visit and we had been invited for dinner the following evening.
Well her uncle turned out to be Dieter Mieier, from Yello.
And he came bearing gifts - Sony MiniDisc Walkmans, with discs of their albums.
Copying the music off them was quite something - individual tracks were mammoth size - about 300MB each !!

Yelow's albums 'Toy' and 'Point' are very well recorded. They make my feet tap! (I Stream via Tidal HiFi.)

Nice. Your cable management would drip anyones wife's panties.
I think you mentioned you have plan but an obvious and cheap improvement would be isolation stands or foam.

Sooo, the setup has since changed from this image.
And too much cable was still exposed as seen in this image you've tagged.. cleaned up a bit more and swapped to the following speakers, and 3D printed 5cm (In height) speaker stands. On the feet, rubber pieces to give it some grip (They're about 0.3mm in thick)

Tidal is great, it's my main runner - For 1 Month you don't pay a cent, if you'd like to give it a 2 Month run, I think they charge you R16 for that extra month.
Spotify is my all rounder, if I'm in the mood for fun mix and let it play in the background, Spotify, driving, Spotify (It just has great mixes)
If I found a nice song that I want to listen to with a neat whisky, Tidal

from inside it looks spacious, but look from above - inside that box are 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining room

In the pool is the architect who designed and built the house for herself initially.
The nice thing about the jungle is you can roam about the garden and in the pool stark naked if you choose - complete privacy !
besides - no wife, i'm one of the gheys in the village.

that was durban, late 90s
we try improve our lives over the years.
that being said, that dbn house has always been my favorite.
a very unique house, visited by dbn uni architecture students every year.
if you look at the 2nd pic, you see a domed / barreled roof.
if you look at the overhead pic you will see that same roof, but with tracks on either end.
hit a button and the roof (2 sections) retracts back, opening the house to the sky above.
directly below in the 2nd pic you can see plants to the right, directly under that roof is a self levelling koi pond, and atrium with about 24 chinese palms.
the main bedroom had a similar roof , but cant see it in the pic.
it is that nice that i contacted the architect who had returned to germany, asking her if she still had the plans for the house, as i wanted to replicate it in cape town
@epah - hell no.
she is a brazen hussey that would try poach all my "gentlemen visitors".
i could imagine arriving home unexpected, only to be greeted by the sight of @epah serving cocktails and canapes to the village.
