OK, I need some input here...I currently have the iPad Air 16Gb (Wifi & Cellular)...

...and now I have a devious plan. I can upgrade to the iPad Pro (9.7") 32Gb, and my monthly subs will only increase with R40 p/m (I have it on data contract with Vodacom). With my iPhone, I'm still happy with 16Gb, but with the iPad I'm really struggling with 16Gb, so 32Gb will be extremely welcome.

Now I know the specs of the Pro, it is easy enough to Google, and it is only two generations newer than my current Air. So is it worth the trouble to upgrade?

The plan doesn't stop here though. If I go ahead with the upgrade, I want to sell my iPad Air, and use the money to buy an Apple Watch. Second hand of course - plenty of them around now selling for R4500 or even less, even the 42mm model, and then they are a month or three old and still in excellent condition.

Yes, I won't get R4,500 for my iPad, maybe R3,500 or thereabouts...not minding paying in a few hundred rand, but I could definitely not afford a new Watch out of the box.

I know there's rumours about a Watch 2 coming out later this year, moot point for me as I won't be able to afford one and I'm happy with the functionality of the current Watch.

Good plan or not?

You'll find plenty of buyers for your old iPad. Check carbonite for some good deals on the Apple watch. Plan sounds good. I have the iPad Air 1 and it's still quick enough for everything I do. The 9.7 Pro should be a killer tablet to get.

I upgraded from an iPad 2 to the Air, that was three generations - quite an upgrade...from the Air to the Pro maybe not as huge, but it still sounds worth it if I read about the four speaker setup and True Tone display...

I have a lot to think about haha. Of course it is not necessary but it is a clever way of funding a Watch. And as mentioned, the extra capacity on the iPad will certainly help me a lot.

I have an iPad Air, and an iPad Pro (9.7). The update was for the extra storage space, and for the Pencil.
Sure the TouchID is nice, but I never had a passcode on my Air. The 4 speakers sound really good too, but I don't normally listen to music on the iPad either.

Other than that, app performance is the same and there isn't anything noticeably faster. If it wasn't for the Pencil I wouldn't really notice the difference in the apps and games that I use.

I upgraded from an Air to an Air 2 and didn't look back. It was worth it in terms of the performance upgrades as well as the split screen.

Unfortunately, I sold that because the stylus I used was not precise enough and I'm now using a Galaxy Note tab... I'm planning on getting an iPad Pro hopefully this year if the price drops a bit.

Regarding the Apple Watch, it's a great piece of tech but you may find that you could easily live without it - I didn't really notice when I left my one at home to charge once or twice in the short time I had it... If you're patient enoigh, wait for version 2 and get the current one at a better price

So big disappointment, it seems nobody has stock of 32Gb Pro 9.7" models. Tried iStore, Vodashops, etc...

Unbelievable.

The iStore online site has stock, just order from them.

Online is for cash deals only...I want it on a data contract. Before confirming stock they always ask if it is for contract or cash...ridiculous...if they have stock, just help the customer already...

Wonder if one makes a scene, or ask very nicely, if they would be prepared to allocate a "cash purchase" unit for contract?

Finally got one over the weekend...all I can say is wow - the sound is incredible and the performance is noticeable faster than my Air.

Split screen is quite nifty. Just a small disappointment that VLC doesn't support picture in picture.

Major bummer for me that VLC does not support PiP. VLC says in an Apple limitation.

Recently moved from the 1st gen mino to the pro 9.7. Holy ****balls. Such a huge difference. I absolutely love this thing.

Anyone got the pencil? I really want to buy one just to play around with it. So expensive tho. But i love writing and i just wonder how it will be.
