I want to upgrade to VDSL which has recently become available in my area. I already have a VDSL compatable modem and router. WHat is the best way to get Telkom to upgrade? Must I phone 10210? Is there a webpage i can use?

Thanking you in advance ;-)

Assuming your router will show you available speed - showed as " attainable rate" - you will see if the upgraded exchange also supports adsl2+ - which is up to 20Mbps.. same as VDSL "Elite" also 20Mbps - the Elite + is 40Mbps, but unless you are very close - within 400m - they will not sell you 40Mbps - only 20. I gave VDSL a go (Was able to get around 30Mbps) - but it was ironically less stable than ADSL2+ - so back down to 12Mbps ADSL2+ - paying for 10MBps - which saves you about R200 pm vs 20Mbps Vdsl - enough to add another 100Gb of cap..

If your exchange offers ADSL2+ you might be able to get close to 20Mbps while paying for 10Mbps - it really depends on the person on the other side - Telkom cannot sell you 20Mbps ADSL2+ - doesn't exist on their system - but they are technically able to push your ADSL profile to 20Mbps - you'll find a few guys on MyBB who are running 20Mbps ADSL2+..

Best way = 10210 - they will go through a new order process, but it will then be given to the "back end" to test and confirm your available speed. This takes a few days (Used to do it over the phone, but no more - more red tape now) - once they have "upgraded" you, you need to make sure the technical guys change your modulation from ADSL to VDSL - you also then need to change your router settings.

Good luck!

I upgraded my 2mbps ADSL2+ line to "up to 20mbps VDSL", and my modem is sync'ing with ADSL2+ modulation with ATM encapsulation at 20'471 kbps down, 1023 kbps up, instead of the advertised VDSL2 modulation with PTM encapsulation. Which is waste to me, because I went and bought a new VDSL2 modem for nothing after Telkom and my ISP who now manages my line told me to get a VDSL2 modem. My old Telkom ADSL2+ capable modem would have been just fine.

It is worth asking your ISP to change your mode to VDSL. VDSL has lower overhead and up rate should increase to 2 Mbit/s.

I notified them earlier today, maybe they will get back to me by tomorrow. My line was upgraded today, so holding thumbs here.
