Upload more than Download???

The speedtest.net results can be very inaccurate too! Since they only test the speed by transfering relatively small files. If you've really got a faster upload rate than download rate, then you can consider yourself lucky if you're just paying the standard Telkom rate of R152pm for the 384kbps ADSL line.

Btw, have you looked at your router's synchronization rates? If its synchronizing at 384kbps down/192kbps up, then those speedtest.net results were incorrect!

wow, those are weird rates. Do you have a 4Mbps ADSL connection? Your rates are then supposed to be 4096kbps down/512kbps up.

Of course if you're having line stability issues (where your SNR Margin is too low OR your Line Attenuation is too high), they would lower your download rate from 4096kbps to 2048 or 1024kbps to increase the stability. At my office we're running our 4Mbps line on 2Mbps due to stability issues.

Looking at Dlink device info now...

Line rate - upstream(kbps) - 511
Line rate - downstream (kbps) - 1024

Yeah uhm... that's a 4Mb line.... which simply syncs at 1Mb down. This happens when your line cannot sustain syncronization at a higher speed.

My line has been giving craps for the past 2 days now...everything i ping is around 120+.....was fine 3 days ago though >.<

You think thats bad, my ping to London was 895ms and my Download speed was 0.95Mb/s on a 2Meg line

Guys i have a 384k line and you guys saying its a 4Mb line?:wtf:

If so...am i lucky? hahahaha--- anyone has a 4Mb account i could try? :)

I ahve a friend working for telkom in my area, he patch the line in the exchange for me-could it be he patched it as a 4Mb? hahaha--am i dreaming?

I have a SAOL 384k contract - u think if i try a 4Mb account i will download faster?

Can someone lend me their account for a weekend? LOL

I think you can, was reading somewhere on here, that you can use other ISP accounts.:)

I'l be curous to try though...imagine paying for a 384k line and geting 4Mb?:p:p:p

If you're renting the line from Telkom, then you can usually use multiple ISP accounts, however I'm not so sure that you can do that with SAOL - I could be wrong too :)

So i did a speed test to CapeTown and my upload is more than my download? :-( Why? Its a 384k line...

Then this special is right up your alley... :D

FREE Upload ADSL!

Our new 5GB and 10GB FREE Upload ADSL accounts are a first in South Africa. The download bandwidth allows you full line speed downloads, just like a normal ADSL account, however uploads do not count towards your cap! From only R249pm!

You're ping is bad because you're not with afrihost
