Does anyone know of a bulk data upload service in Cape Town (if there is even such a thing) and prices?

I am busy uploading stuff (mostly photos) to the cloud but the fibre at home (Openserve) is a 20mbps down/10mbps up connection. I see other providers offer a 20/20 line for only about R60 extra but the next package available on Openserve is 40/20 which is R200 extra. Openserve is the only provider in our area. :cautious:

Or even recommend a coffee shop or restaurant that has fast uncapped wifi?

How much data are we talking about? Why not just leave it running 24x7

Free wifi spots will not work, they will probably throttle/disconnect you.

If you don't need fullsize images then batch resize them smaller to reduce size?

Yeah I guess I can do that, that would be my plan for continual uploads once the bulk is done. Was wondering if I could get the majority of it done (I dunno exact size, over a hundred GB's) and then just use the home line to upload new content as I create it...

I want to upload full size pictures. It'll be a backup of my archive.

Malls with @Vast is usually pretty fast. Mall of Africa food court get's like 350Mbps down and 200Mbps upload. You can also try Starbucks.

Well Starbucks is uncapped but @vast you just get a bit free.

I am busy with the same issue on a 10/5 line at the moment, about 400 GB worth to upload to backblaze.

Not much I can do unfortunately, so I'm just letting it run, I've set it to max out at 3.5 Mbit/s so that my line doesn't become unusable, and let it work in the background whole I do my thing.

I think it's a nifty business idea though, an "upload service".

Have you used them before? Don't see any prices on their site...
No I haven't. I just walk past their offices in Somerset West every now and then and they look clued up. Might be worth giving them a phone call

I'd probably get myself a Rain sim and give it a very thorough test over the first seven days.
Ja. The R250 off peak uncapped package looks like a viable option. And I don't think it's a contract

Download is good on Rain, but I found (at least while I had the fixed LTE) that the upload wasn't that great. OP might not get much better than his current fibre line. I'd average about 7-10 Mbps up, compared with between 20 and 50 down.

It might not be much of a speed improvement for the OP but for me it could be the solution I've been looking for. I'm getting 1.8Mbps upload speed on my VDSL line vs 12 Mbps on a phone with a Rain sim in it.

I quickly scanned through my recent archives and over the 2018/19 rugby/soccer/cricket season I took over 70k photos weighing in at 500gb. That would only take 5 days on Rain and the family could still get full use out of the VDSL line. There's probably 10-20k other photos I took over the same period that I'd also like to back up so call it a week.

I've got about ten years of photos I want to back up so it would only take a few months even if I scheduled everything between midnight and 18:00. Rain's R250 per month is sounding pretty good, for me at least.
