I am in need of a internet connection with greater upload speed. My wife currently uses it with medical software to work from home. The requirements for the specific software is a fixed IP and as I understand she uploads images.

Speed is a factor in getting the images back and forth between the parties.

Currently on Mweb 4mb fixed IP business account but was hoping to get something like Neotel fibre that is symmetrical. The Mweb is causing lots of hassels and upload is limited to normal upload speeds at best. She is not doing this full time so usually not justified spending between R3-4k for a service like this.

Another options?

Nothing I know of besides fibre and VDSL are going to affordable. The fact that you are on 4Mbit suggests that you probably don't have VDSL in your area though. You could always check though, sending a PM to TelkomZA would probably be the best option to see if you have access in your area.

Fibre is going to cost you and is also very limited in terms of availability. You are looking at at least 3K pm for symmetrical 2Mbit fibre (http://www.neotel.co.za/wps/portal/neotel_business_internet_neobroadbandfibre).

Can't think of anything else in the price range with a fixed IP solution.

If a static IP wasn't a requirement, I'd say something like load balanced 3G modems. With Telkom Mobile, I get between 3 - 4 megabit upload per modem, so a two-modem load balanced connection would drift between 6 - 8 megabit - if you need more upload, add more modems.

Data costs would be R400 for 40GB. You'll also need a business-grade router, i.e Cisco, Juniper, Mikrotik. There are a couple other factors that would also need to be taken into consideration, but it's all doable.

The other great thing about the above solution is, with antenna's you can balance your connections between towers (Depending on where you are) thus providing greater redundancy... add a good UPS or deep cycle battery, and you'll have internet during power failure too!

But I'm assuming the 'software' is IP restricted. If the service was Dropbox-like or Amazon S3, the above method would work wonders.

Thanks, I will followup on the options. I am told that is the limitations by the software. If there is a osirix expert out there that can confirm. If it was not for the fixed IP address things could have been a lot easier.

Neotel WIFI has much better upload than ADSL.

I remember this post some months ago. Radiological software with fixed IP.

did you contact Kawuleza or Amobia? They have a decent connection with fixed IP and symetrical speeds.

Also Wifibre (they been expanding quickly around joburg).

Other options are Wimax from Neotel (usually with 5 fixed IPs). There's also a "NeoBroadband Wireless" from Neotel (I just discover it today) that mention 4mbps down/1.3mbps up that is far better than ADSL. Also 6mpbs down/2mbps up.

You can find it under "Home/Office" and "Compare Packages".

Otherwise you can still get their new LTE service that has better upload speeds than ADSL and 3G. Not sure if they can give you a fixed IP with the LTE service. www.neotel.co.za/lte

We use neotel fibre for its upload speed. Its unlikely that you will be able to get it at home though, their fibre path is normally through business districts only.

Webtailor - Yes still same issue. I looked at those but coverage is a problem. I am based in PMB.

Neotel fibre is a option here but a bit pricey for the amount we are going to use it. It was around R3500 a month.
For most of the month I need normal 4mb adsl but for about 3-5 days in the month I need fixed IP, high upload speed.

I will look into wimax seems a bit cheaper.
