Upload Speed

Why is it that some people have an upload speed of 640000 and others 512000? How do I get the 640000 one?

and on Telkom's website it says:

Up stream line sync speed:
minimum 256kbps, maximum 512kbps.

or am I mistaken?

Apparently it's only some exchanges that support 640kbps upstream on 4mbps DSL sync's...most only do 512kbps.

I guess if you got the 640kbps rate, then you're just lucky.

When a friend of mine had ADSL issues, I saw that his line was synchronizing at 640kbps down, 192kbps up. We phoned the Call Centre asking to reset the port, since I thought the wrong rates could've caused the frequent (like once every 2 seconds) disconnects. After they reset the port, his speed was down to 512kbps again and it didn't even make a difference w.r.t. the disconnects If I just knew that it wouldn't make a difference, my friend would've still had 640kbps down...
