Is there a way to upload airtime onto your E220 sim without having to take it out of the modem and recharging it in your phone ?

You can use the USSD feature in MDMA.
Just below 'USSD Commands' is a text entry field where you can type a USSD command, like '*111#', then press Enter or click on the 'Send USSD' button.

If you've bought a pre-paid voucher, the USSD command to top-up is '*141*<voucher number>#', where <voucher number> is the number printed on your voucher, and don't type the quotation marks.

Standard Bank's internet banking site has an option to recharge any pre-paid number, one of the nice things is you can specify the exact Rand value to transfer, you aren't restricted to the pre-paid voucher sizes available in the shops.

Thanks Ginggs , I downloaded your MDMA and really like it . I tried clicking on the USSD and it gives you the codes , but I presume you then have to have the pre-paid voucher pin number to input there first , then decode the airtime to Data bundles . Can you convert to data bundles sing the USSD as well ?

That's right, first buy a voucher at a shop, or use internet banking to purchase the airtime, then buy the data bundle using your airtime.

Some codes for MTN data bundles here.

I use internet banking to buy airtime and then buy data bundles on vodacom's website. You can also use USSD commands to buy bundles via MDMA.

Thanks Ginggs , I have bought airtime online R189 , which should buy me 500mb , now I think that that airtime has been sent to the sim card , but how do I transfer the airtime to 500mb of data ?

Help please , could one of you guys pm me a number that I could contact you on just to explain these steps to transfer the airtime to data . Thanks

Have a look at USSD help on MDMA (the nr is there). Also note some older versions of E220 firmware did not support USSD in MDMA.

OK I open the USSD window , type in "*141# and it tell me that I have 323mb as well as R190 airtime which I have just purchased , but it doesn't tell me how to proceed further .

Hi Keeper , I appreciate your help , but I dont have a voucher number as the airtime is sent directly to the sim number .

like ginggs said, type:

*141*voucher number#

No I think its *141*6*bundle size# to buy the bundle. robass if you do get a response when using MDMA I think your firmware is fine for now.

Park thanks so much , that is exactly what I had to do to load the data , it has now succesfully loaded 500mb .
Thanks once again for your help .

Could you explain me if your sim card is both data + voice calls ?

My operators sells data sim cards seperately, so no need to
transfer airtime to data.
All I have to know is to how much to recharge to get 1GB, 2GB
data transfer bonus.

The same works for voice call sim card.
It can be recharged with cash, not airtime or data
and cash is used to pay for airtime or data transfer at preset rate.

Darius , I bought the standard 32k sim from an MTN store for R5 , I then also bought 350mb of data for R169 , and got R169 worth of airtime which I then had to phone and convert it to data . I then learnt (on this thread) how to purchase data on ussd from the rand value of airtime purchased on internet banking .
Hope this helps .
