Is anyone using uPnp NAT Transversal,

I'm thinking of giving it a go, but am a little cautious about allowing programs on my Pc being able to open and close ports on their own accord.

How secure is this?

Yup - program goes moggy - openz u up to the world - hey presto - you're dead.
But seriously, the programs usually only open the required ports, and you'd have to open them anywayz, and the uPNP only allows throughput back to the requesting computer. I've been using it for ages alreadee and have no complaints at all. Just remeber to set the timeout on the uPNP ports so that they close again after say 2 minutes.

The only reason I'm still contemplating this is because I'm running a firewall, antivirus and antispyware software on my PC and in that regard I feel pretty secure. While testing I have allowed NAT to allow all ports to get to my PC and nothing "killed me", but then I only did this on one day.

Might give this a try tonight and monitor traffic and see how it all goes

I've been running uPNP for years without issue, just make sure you have no rogue programs (spyware, trojans etc.) running on your machines (as alluded to by stoke).

I specifically replaced my Cisco router with a Netgear DG834 to get UPnP functionality to run MSN Messenger audio and video. I haven't picked up any security problem, but I guess one needs the anti-virus, anti-malware and firewall combination for good security.
