UPS Advice

Good day,

I'm looking for a UPS to power my little gaming Rig for a few minutes after a power outage. The UPS should be able to Handle all 850W my rig abuses. Realistically, my Rig doesn't use that much power, but after modifying at a bit more, by adding another GPU, it will.

What is the best UPS to power my Rig for a few minutes after a power failure? I'm looking for something reliable, and relevantly priced. I'm willing to chuck in a bit extra, if the UPS can turn the computer off automatically if the power goes down.

That UPS can max do 865watt. If the OP wants to be able to handle 850watt he should aim slightly higher with the UPS, and get one that is rated to lets say handle 900-1000watt, its not overkill, but a bit more than what he wants, thus guaranteed it will work.

I know this, because I currently have UPS rated the same, and when I play games...it just turns off after power failure, if I don't play games it works fine for about 10-15 minutes.

Also keep in mind, his machine may pull up to 850watt, but his monitor will also pull a little bit, pushing the total possible value over 850watt.

Definitely APC...had such a hassle with no name brands.

See if you can find a double conversion one within your price range...unlikely (they're stupidly expensive) but check anyway.

I think the 850W is the absolute maximum threshold the OP will require, in real life scenarios it's unlikely it will pull more than 500W at a time.

We run 4 PCs off that unit and get about 20 minutes battery time.

Like I said, it will be fine when he is not playing games, but going by the OP, you can see he may be in a game playing, and I have seen first hand how my own personal PC kills small UPS's. I have a 1000watt PSU, with 2x GPUs in SLI, and well....if power goes out while I am in a game...UPS just turn off to protect itself. Its not that it is not lasting battery wise, the circuitry just can't handle a load higher than what it is rated at.

But sure, let him go ahead and use that unit. It will work if he is busy with anything but games. Which is probably what the point is.

What UPS is that?

OP did ask for max load of 850W, this APC unit is a highly recommended and rated at 865W.

Different brand rated at 1500va as well.

The OP didn't include the extra power his monitor will be pulling. Small difference, but can be the deal breaker at the end of the day, since you leaving him with only 15watt spare.

When I take off my monitor, the UPS lasts a few minutes while in game. In the end took my gaming pc off it.

Well, thanks for the suggestion. The main monitor doesn't have to stay on. I'll have my secondary monitor linked up to the ups, which is a 19" Samsung LCD monitor.

I have the older version of this UPS, non digital, had the same thing happen until I replaced the batteries.
4770k with 2 x GTX 770s and a Corsair HX750 and it draws just under 650w according to powerchute.
