I have just had 2 UPSs die on me. They are called premuim bought from cafe java. Can batteries be replaced and is it easy. Also where is the best place to buy them from.
Thanks

I buy our UPS/Alarm batteries at our neighbor (No help for you I know :(). With my UPS you just open the flap, and replace the batteries. After their initial 16 hour charge, they are ready to go. As easy as that.

UPS battery is usually a SLA (sealed lead acid)

U can get em at all decent electronic shops

I got mine from the nearest security company - just took out the old one, and took it with me - they checked the ratings and gave me a brand new replacement with the same specs - can't remember the cost though, but wasn't too much. You must charge for the full time though to ensure long life...

Thanks for the replies. I went to the mica near me with a battery and bought 4 for R120. Charged for the 16 hours and it works. Joburg city power has just helped me test them with a power outage, I hope this did not affect the cricket. I am just up the road.:):)

question: can the run time be extended by adding more batteries (in parallel I suppose) to a unit that has only 1 battery for example? Or will this fry the electronics?

1 bat = 12V (afaik)
2 bats (series) = 24V
2 bats (parallel) = 12V
3 bats (parallel) = 12V
etc etc

So you tell me. If you connect 12V/24V/12V/12V to the system, which one of these will fry the electronics?
:p The 24V of course.
Parallel is safe to extend the runtime yes.

/OT/ Lol ... you and me both ... except the traffic is killing me when there is cricket ... I live by Atholl Oaklands Rd. Its funny how you live in this area and also use Cafe Java who are now in Midrand ... I suppose you used them when they were at the gym.

I run a printshop just off the corner of Oxford rd in Corlett drive. You are right I was using Cafe Java. Come in for coffee some time just call first as I am not always in. My address etc can be found in the website shown in my signature.
Anyway cricket is over for us as the final is on the public holiday.
