Hey everyone!

I bought a UPS for loadshedding to keep my fibre connection up.

Problem is, I keep getting disconnects (they last for less than a second). I tried everything to find out where the issue is and it all led to the UPS. When the router and ONT are connected to the main powerline, everything works fine. This also happened on two different UPS.

The first one I tried was this: https://www.takealot.com/rechargeab...or-internet-routers-cctv-smart-d/PLID72925744
The second one is: https://www.computermania.co.za/gizzu-60w-65wh-17600mah-mini-poe-dc-ups-black.html

Both the Router and ONT require a 12V connection, so I made sure that the UPS is set to that as well. I do also keep the router and ONT plugged into the UPS as well and the UPS itself remains plugged into my mains.

I'm not sure how to fix this? All help will be appreciated!

Thanks!

The first UPS only has 1A output so I suspect this is not enough for the router and ONT at times. The second ones seems to have 2A and 5A outputs which should be enough. Did you try both of them?

Are both devices connected to one UPS? If so, I'd suggest one UPS for each device. I have similar for my ONT and my router, one on each at 12v. No issues.

Thanks! I'll give this a try when I get home this afternoon! I plugged in both the ONT and the UPS to two different 5A slots. The ONT is 12V - 1.5A and the Router is 12V - 1A. Could those be an issue? Should I maybe keep the ONT on the 5A port and the router on the 2A?

I would give this a try, but not any time soon. Can't really afford another one of those UPS right now lol

Try to split them, although the UPS should have enough power on the 5A slots. Remember it is very likely that the 5 12V ports share the 5A limit, the UPS is rated for 60W. So it is not 5A per plug. I am not sure if the switchable plug has a separate 2A limit but it is likely. So one device on the 2A port and one on the 5A port should work.

If you need to replace the UPS at some point, consider something like this.

You can get it at any security store, and there is a 6A version as well. I have a similar system (but with a 45Ah car battery instead of the normal 7Ah battery) running the ONT, router, usb for charging a phone and 12V lights. Has more power than the Gizzu but not all the different voltage options.

Hi. Did you find a solution to your problem? I have the same. One UPS for the ONT and a separate UPS for the router does not solve my problem.

Hello!

I unfortunately couldn’t and ended up returning it.

I decided to spend a little extra and get this + I ended up buying a new router and everything worked fine: https://www.computermania.co.za/gizzu-60w-65wh-17600mah-mini-poe-dc-ups-black.html?utm_source=CM Google Shopping Feeds&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=CM Google Shopping Feeds&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7e6m1ur2-gIVidPtCh0U8gENEAQYASABEgK1vvD_BwE

Since getting that, I’ve had no problems at all and I can keep my fibre running for about 6 hours :)
