UPS for ADSL Modem(Eskom loadshedding)

Good day guys

My notebook battery can last up to 4 hours of coding, just need something to keep my ADSL working.

What UPS make and model can be recomended for ADSL Modem, Netgear DGN2200m v2?

Also does loadshedding affect Telkoms abilitly to supply ADSL?

Any of you running a system like this?

There is a modification you will need to do to use the 2 pin power adapter sold with the Netgear ADSL Modem Router: you will need to modify a multiplug bar to plug into the back of the UPS. In other words, remove the plug that the multiplug bar came with and replace it with a male kettle cord type plug.

Thanks, i was browsing around and came accross that one. How long will it last me when the power goes?

I struggle to find the correct formula to work this out. Only my ADSL modem will be connected to this

That UPS probably won't stay powered for 4 hours, unless maybe if you find a way to feed the router directly off the battery.

On the left is Battery Backup? Will that be directly of the battery?

EDIT: 4 Hours is maybe a bit much, if i can get 2 or 2 and half hours ill be happy, just for the loadshedding stint

If that does not work then substitute the model with an APC BackUPS 1500 with Extended run battery accessory. Its more expensive but gets the job done.

On another note the Netgear ADSL Modem / Router consumes 8W of power...

It all depends on your budget...

Here are pictures of my two UPS's setup and currently running due to blackouts...





The BackUPS 1500 runs my networking and Internet infrastructure (Wireless ISP equipment) and had 941 min of run time when the power was cut.
The BackUPS 1200 runs my PC / laptop and had 196 min of run time when the power was cut.
The pics above were taken today at 2pm and I am still running without Eskom power.

Also have a look at the Tedelex Intellipower 2 and Intellipower 4 Inverters. The 2 was being offered at around R2300 and the 4 at around R3500 the last I checked. Yes, I know the Inverters have been discontinued but there are a few still around. The benefit is when you need to replace batteries. The Tedelex can take standard 12 volt high amp batteries. The APC devices are excellent until service and battery replacement is called for. In our server room, that's every three years, sometimes every 2 which gives our CFO a not so warm and fuzzy feeling when he pays the bill ️

APC take standard batteries. Nothing special about it. Get them from PSS.
