What UPS do you guys recommend for Rain's routers? I know they use ZTE and Huawei but I just want to know which ones you guys have. Preferably something under R500.

Some of those units have a 19V power supply.

Others have a 12V power supply which makes a standalone power backup solution a whole lot easier.

R500 is a very low budget. just the battery pack inside the inverter costs more than R500.

With a fiber router you might be able to get away with that price, but LTE routers use a lot more power. Probably at least 10W, more if you don't have a strong signal.

R699 for 32Wh of battery capacity.

at 10W of power draw, that's only 3 hours of battery life, so its no good for higher levels of load shedding. You probably want something 60Wh or more.

So R1100 is probably closer to the budget you need.

Also as per DapperDanMan, check the power supply of the router and make sure you get a UPS that can output the voltage you need. 12V is easy, but 19V is more difficult to get.

This might be the best value for money, but I also dont think 48Wh is large enough

At work, I use a Volkano unit, the same as Vodacom sell, that cost me R500.00 on Takealot. Runs a Huawei B618 fine.

At home I run a Ratel 8100, has higher capacity and longer battery life. Ran the ZTE MC888 5G router on it for 8 hours, now have a Huawei 5G CPE Pro running on it.

Sorry to hijack this thread. My Lead Acid UPS has finally died and I need a Lithium backup for our RAIN router. 19V and 1.26A according to the transformer. Any ideas? Thanks.

I use a Ratel 8100, tho a 860, may also work if you do not have extended load shedding periods.

Gizzu also make good devices.

Thanks for the info. It does not look if the Ratels are readily available. "Out of Stock". I'll check out the Gizzu's.

Also bought a small Volkano unit to use at work, supports a Huawei B618 for 2 1/2 hours, easily, on Takealot, was cheapish.

Thanks, I see the small ones are 19V compatible. Was hoping for a 4hour capacity (despite the promises made at SONA).
