i tried that last night but the repair does not work as the hd is not registering or something.

i tried everything even default settings the windows xp disc and nothing at all. we have taken it in now to the shop around the corner and will see what they can do.

thanks for the help guys.

1)go into the bios - check for any NATIVE/LEGACY SATA.....if disabled switch to enable

or

2)download NLITE and all the drivers
-extract the drivers into seperate folders
-add drivers via nlite into a new XP SLIPSTREAM
-use TEXTBASED driver option instead of PNP

should help!

took it to computer place and the guy says to me he got into windows and it sounded like the fan was faulty and this caused the laptop to shut down, he said he can only look at it on monday but we picked it up anyway from him yesterday and when i switched it on it stays on black screen unable to pick up a hard drive.

he BS us for sure.

are you trying to install XP onto a SATA drive? If so you might need to load some drivers for that SATA controller first. XP does not recognize all SATA controllers. Go to the website and see if there is a driver for the SATA controller. Only problem is you have to load it from a Stiffy disk.
Had the same problem on my hp notebook a while back. You could also build the sata drivers into the installation cd using nlite if you don't have a stiffy drive.

gonna phone the guy i bought it from just now to ask if he will come fetch the laptop at work tomorrow.

Actually what i see here is the problem that Ur laptop got a sata hard drive. U need that version of XP in which sata drivers are already embedded. Try to get that XP.

is this little laptop hard drive supposed to sound like a baby's rattle when i shake it?
