This will be useful in a notification point. However currently after reversing the sim swap I have to be in SA to activate my SIM so I have lost all access to my SIM.

Also an affidavit bypasses this so it wouldn't have helped in my situation.

Update:

I received a response from MTN today, 5 days after my request.
Ignoring my request I just got a MTN generic emails stating they have escalated it to the fraud department.

You could have expected since the crooks went to effort of doing an affidavit you can just imagine what they are up to. This makes the response and total lack of interest from MTN not make sense.
 
Another update:
Still waiting 2 weeks later for feedback. Discovered my one online account was hacked after the illegal sim swap

I visited the MTN branch and asked how is possible that an MTN can so easily be swapped without security controls.

They just said if you are on prepaid if an affidavit is used to sim swap, your identity is not verified. Only contract accounts have this feature and with prepaid that anyone can claim in an affidavit the number belongs to them.

This means someone requests sim swap, fails all the security questions. Told to do an affidavit. They email a specific MTN department claiming the number is theirs and sending though ID copy possible someone who had their identity stolen or a copy of your ID/passport or even their own, with a copy of a fake or real affidavit . The ID copy or affidavit is never verified as legitimate. It doesn't even have to be verified as the true owner. (According to the MTN store lady with an affidavit emailed ,if on prepaid your RICA info is not even checked not sure if she talks kak but if isn't this is scary)

I asked if they can tell me where the affidavit was done. She says it is impossible to say with prepaid as it is emailed.
2 weeks ago I requested the affidavit from MTN but is seems since someone else can claim the number as theirs I would not be even able to access it due to confidentiality seeing they made the affidavit in a name and ID copy that is not me. If they made it with a copy of my ID/passport the way they have avoided contacting me so far I even doubt they would give me the affidavit to avoid legal liability.

If you are on MTN prepaid anyone then any person knowing your cellphone number and full name makes it an additional security vulnerability.
Add to that the security is if you are travelling and roaming, your sim gets illegally swapped, you request a sim swap reversal, it means you lose all access to your SIM until you are back in South Africa seeing that after a sim swap roaming is disabled and you have to be in SA to enable roaming gain. This means a 3rd party can indirectly disable your roaming permanently while you are roaming and you can only get your number back once back in SA. IF someone knows you are overseas you are so much more hackable as you can't get any notifications even after you have reversed the sim swap

Scary stuff. Learnt some nasty security lessons.
