Hey guys.

My brother is busy with his master's and needs help with Matlab. He has money he's saved up but it's not much so he'd prefer if it was cheap or free. Please PM me if you can help.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Post the requirements here, so the readers of the forum can get a glimpse as to what computations he is trying to perform. This will save everybody time.

I don't know the specifics but he's doing an investment degree. I'll ask him for a brief description

Here you guys go

"Sorry for the delayed response. It's an investigation into price momentum on the jse as a trading strategy. So I've collected daily share price data for over 300 shares for a period of 7 years. I want to test the profitability of buying the top 10 (and selling the bottom 10) [i.e. Creating a portfolio] shares looking back over varying periods of time, and holding the portfolio for varying periods of time over the time series. The groundbreaking paper on the topic was published be Jegadeesh and Titman (1993). It's a good paper, pretty short, and introduces the topic quite well.

http://www.bauer.uh.edu/rsusmel/phd/jegadeesh-titman93.pdf (here's a link to their paper)

Since then, thousands of papers have been published on the topic, so it's evolved a lot, but the basic concept still holds."

He says he's really desperate so if I can only find a proper, full price developer then he'll pay for it.

So he wants to pay someone to do his masters for him?

No. He needs help with the programming of Matlab.

Part of a Masters degree is the research component. This includes analysing the data.
He shouldn't be paying people to write/perform the analysis for him...

Thanks. This doesn't help me or him. It's also weird that you seem to know more about what has to be done for the assignment than my brother or his professor which he talks to on a daily basis about his master's.

So you'r telling me his professor told him to hire someone to do write the fundamental part of his thesis that analyses the data?

That's a cheeky comment from somebody looking for help :(

As someone who does quantitative finance for a living, I can say the programming required here is fairly simple, and probably the most valuable thing your brother can get from his degree is to figure out how to do this himself. All our quants program, without exception.

Heh, if that's all he needs, he doesn't need Matlab. He can use pretty much any interpreted language. Python & R are the two that spring to mind. Python has terabytes worth of material surrounding it.
