US must colonise Mars, says Buzz Aldrin

Buzz Aldrin, the American astronaut who was the second man to walk on the Moon, said that the United States must lead the way toward building a permanent settlement on Mars.

Mars! Imagine how many short kids will finally be able to dunk an NBA regulation height basketball hoop!
Hang time bitches! :D

Why must it always be a competition to be the first to do something in space? Why not get more than one country working together as a team effort.

Don't see this happening anytime soon. And honestly, this money could be well spent eradicating poverty and building better economies accross the world. Civillisation as it stands is broken, what's the point of moving it elsewhere. Just creates more opportunities for greed, corruption and dictation. Invest in earth, not MARS.

What about the Russians? Chinese? etc

US is against working with certain countries. The International Space Station is a combined effort by 5 space agencies: NASA, the Russian Federal Space Agency, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, European Space Agency, and Canadian Space Agency.
China would like to be a part of it but the USA says no, so they have their own contemporary manned space program, Project 921, and have carried out cooperation and exchanges with countries such as Russia and Germany in manned and unmanned space projects...

Why? Because Earth has an expiry date, and if humanity doesn't learn how to space it up we're ****ed regardless. We can worry about fixing society whilst those with the biggest brains figure out how we can permanently get off this rock.

I hope we don't get to Mars. If humans can't even look after their own planet why must be go to another planet to screw that one up as well.

First thing we need to do is put sterilization tablets in the water supply

Because it costs lots of money and one would expect some payoff. Who will get what? And US will provide the bulk of the money and know how anyway.

And after the US clears the way for everyone the Indians and Chinese will come along and ride on their coat tails and demand access to the same technology because it's unfair for other countries not to share Mars. Africa will also demand. Because of racism and slavery.
