US Students robbed in Pretoria

Trace all the cellphone numbers on the bus drivers phone, failing that , callback the numbers on the phones of the staff that saw them embark on the bus.....
Inside job..... yep!Yep!

The driver is an idiot then, fountains is a very high hijacking spot. The touring company should have known better.

Please do not post such negative comments about South Africa. Others might be reading and think we are a country ruled by criminals. Don't let a once in a lifetime incident like this spoil your day. Pretoria is safer then many a city in the states.

Pretoria is by far safer than Johannesburg. I jog the place every morning all over the city, but driving past Eeufeesroad towards fountains is bloody stupid, especially since there are other roads available like the N14.

Bwaahaha!

Well at least they learnt something here unique to the culture, they wouldn't of learnt back home.

The other three armed motorcyclists then got onto the bus and stole an undisclosed amount of US dollars and several cellphones from the students and chaperones, before fleeing the scene, Malila said.

Now they can bust these criminal guys for owning undeclared US dollars.

Nicodeamus.. OK, so how do you get to the Voortrekker Monument (a tourist destination if you don't know) in a vehicle without touching Eeufees Road?

Unfortunate that this incident happenend to anyone, however, why you guys take this opportunity to post demeaning remarks about your own country is beyond me. Crime is a problem, and needs to be fixed but there is hardly need to say 'this is africa, this is south africa, this is gauteng' and so on - how is that going to help.

It is not like US is immune to crime their side.

Whether there is crime or not in another country is irrelevant. That doesn't make it okay.

The fact that people are pointing out is that this is Africa, South Africa, Gauteng, or whatever is an expression of the frustration that crime does seems to be okay because we'd rather have ministers living in the lap of luxury rather than an effective police service. And I'd rather spend time shaming someone into doing their job than hiding my head in the sand pretending that this is okay because crime happens elsewhere too.

This is a country run by criminals. In fact, the address for SA Crime Inc is:

The Presidential Suite,
No 1 Nkandla Road
Nkandla
1007

Take the N14 and R101. Fountains is a known hijacking spot.

And that is a physically unsafe road, because of its poor condition. And the N14 itself doesn't go through the best areas either (if coming from PTA).

And do you know where on Eeufees Road this happened or are you just assuming its at the Cristina de Wit Avenue (aka Botha Avenue) intersection area (what you probably refer to when saying Fountains) and not more to the Roger Dyson Road side or in between?

And I have to travel that road near daily at the moment (at night even), I don't feel particularly unsafe there, compared to say Skinner street or going past Marabastad...
