i am correct in saying USB drivers come from microsoft?

hp says i cannot use this hp laserjet because i do not have the correct usb drivers for my gigabyte board

does this sound correct?

it doesnt detect the hp printer at all, it says unknown device

usb drivers come with sp2 correct?

they say i need a usb drivers from the makers of my board but i dont see any usb driver for my board on the gigabyte website

USB 2.0 support comes with SP2 ..or so I've learnt from many, (too!) many installations - you get basic/low speed USB from the outset. And I can't recall a case when I didn't do the usual routine of:
- install XP
- install board drivers
- install XP SP2
- go into device manager and delete the USB(2) device it's not talking to
- rescan for new hardware and voila: USB 2.0 support.

So no, it's almost certainly not a 'doze (USB) driver problem, but 'doze not having the driver for that printer; IMO you're best off getting the printer driver.

On ur Driver disc for ur m/b there are 2 usb driver things. 1 installs usb1.1 and the other fixes a usb 2 issue. Well its like that on my Gigabyte disc...?

I don't like the HP implementation of USB. Sometimes it is difficult to get it running. Try installing the DOT4 USB drivers that comes on the HP printer driver CD.
